sgpro rev3 or letus extreme

I contemplated posting this as I was hoping I would see an answer be posted. The Letus extreme footage looks great but for people still using the dvx100b, how necessary would it be compared to other letus's and other 35mm adapters?

The reason I ask is because I will be recieving the sgpro rev3 very soon(hopefully w/in the next week) and it will be for the dvx100b.

Besides the flip advantage on the letus ex.., does anybody have any opinions on the rev3 compared to the letus extreme? Preferably w/ the dvx100b.

Thanks!

Julian, the SGPro is a great adapter and if you are okay that it doesn't flip, I think you made a very good choice and you won't be disappointed. Chill :)

The Sgpro Rev 3 is awesome. You made a good choice. I used the original Letus35 and I didn't like it. Can;t speak for the extreme,...

ditto, having the flip unit in such a small package with less light loss makes it something else. the SGpro still delivers STUNNING picture, sharpness, and bokeh of beauty, but without the flip and equal light loss, it is a different product.

( not hijacking, but thanks for the lowlight clip steve!! made my knees shake )

The SG Pro has some absolutely ardent supporters and it does a great job. My only beef with it at all, is my same beef with all the others -- that it's upside down. If that doesn't bother you and you're willing to work around it, the SG Pro is a great choice.

As for the Letus -- everyone needs to forget anything they ever read or heard about any prior Letus model. The Extreme is absolutely in a class by itself, as Disjecta said. I'd put the Extreme in the same class as the mini35 -- and yes, I've used the mini35 multiple times.

-- and yes, I've used the mini35 multiple times.

I’m just curious if either you-Barry, or Disjecta, have personally used the Sgpro yourselfs, as I’m still awaiting delivery from the UK. I’m just wondering if you could make the same quality of video, if you had the chance with the SGpro, as you’ve done with the Extreme.

I've used the M2 briefly, the mini35 several times, and the Letus FE and Extreme. Haven't gotten my hands on a Brevis or SG Pro. I may have a chance to do that in the next couple of weeks; I believe the cinematographer I'm shooting with in Oct. is bringing an SG Pro with him so we'll have a chance to test out both on an HPX500 and/or HVX200.

Also, Julienne. If you really want flip, there is a flip module coming out from Cinevate that is supposed to work with the SGPro and other adapters that can take 72mm. .5 stops of additional loss is the initial report. Just wanted to let you know that option will be available if you aren't already aware.

Take care,
Jason

Thanks guys for the advice, opinions and words of encouragement. I'm still stoked on getting my rev3 and the upside down image doesn't bother me to much as I used my static homemade 35 which produced the upside down image. I'll probably invest in a used varizoom as the next couple of projects coming up will be music videos and the run and gun are not so much of an issue. Thanks Jason, I'll look into that cinevate flip module. Image quality, using fast shutter speeds, and sharpness are my main concerns. I'm sure that the rev3 will deliver..

Thanks again!

Have no worries, the SG pro will deliver. I plan on getting the Cinevate flip module when it's out. But really once you adapt on working with an upside down image workflow, you get used to it and is no longer a big deal...especially once you see the resulting imagery.

I had the previous Letus FE...but sold it and decided to go with the SGpro and won't look back. The flip to me is not as much of a deal vs GG movement, construction, and overall picture quality. If you have the right NLE and tools to be able to handle the upside footage then it shouldn't be a problem.

Yea im gonna get a B.lip ( Brevis/Flip)im only worried that its going to make the camera height non standard and need work arounds to use with mattebox FF etc.

Timur, with your B.lip, you might also need a Cinevate rails block and height adjustable camera mount (to raise the camera), so you can keep the SGPro/Canon glass/FF/MB at the usual height.

Wayne is thinking about creating a flip to go with the SGpro..so I am going to wait and see..but if the lightloss is going to up there with the Letus FE..1 1/2 stops or more I would just stay unflipped.

yea ive got a marshall, i'll stay unflipped. It deosnt botherme, or my clients when they see the images.
