Sgpro, Nikon Lenses?

Hi,
I'd like to get a 35mm adapter, and I think I'm going to go with the SGpro, I was looking into the Go35, but I don't have a big budget, and the SGpro seems to be the best for the money, it comes with the rails and a case for a little under $900 us. I also like a lot of the footage I've seen with the SGpro, I'll be using it on a DVX100a.

I don't know a lot about the lenses and how they will work with the adapter, I was thinking of getting the Nikon F mount with it, and a 50mm f1.4D nikon lens.

I'm going to be filming a documentary, and I most likely wont have a lot of time to fiddle with changing lenses and settings, It will also be filmed mostly in natural light outdoors and maybe a little indoors, so I read that the 50mm f1.4 is the best all around lens for most situations,

Also like I said I don't have a big budget, So I most likely can afford just the 35mm Attachment and 1 lens, maybe 2, my second choice is possibly a 28mm lens, can someone recommend a good one?

So I'm wondering if I could get some information about the lenses,

Is the Nikon a good lens?

Is the 50mm f1.4D a good choice?

Which one should I get, A manual focus lens or an auto focus lens?,

I don't know how the focusing works with this adapter, could some one explain this? Does the auto focus lenses even work ? are they worth it if they do? Do you have to set the focus on the camera(DVX100a) and leave it there then focus the lens on the attachment manually? (i've seen pictures of rigs with tape on them, I'm assuming thats to lock down the focus on the DVX?)

Will those Nikon 50mm lenses attach to the Nikon F mount that can come with the SGpro? ...
So happens I come across any Nikon lens at say a yard sale, will I be able to attach that to Nikon F mount on the Sgpro? What do I need to know to know if i can attach lenses to this? the ring size?

Also I can't afford an LCD screen, can someone explain to me how the magnet trick works, because I know the SGpro will leave the footage upside down?

Also Editing in Sony Vegas, what is the easiest way to flip this footage, and will it ruin the quality of the footage?

Thanks for any help and for taking the time to read all my questions,

Joe.

Hi Joe,

Nikon is the best choice in our opinion. The Nikon F mount will physically fit any Nikon lens. Auto focus lenses work providing thay have a manual mode and focus ring, however you are paying for the internal electronic gibbins that you will likely never use. The older manual type lenses are probably your best choice.

A nice 50mm F1.4 is a great choice. A 28mm F2.8 is probably your best bet, for a second lens.

Stay away from the Nikon DX or G series of AF lenses. The DX series does not project a full 36x24mm image, and the aperture remains closed on the G series.

You are correct in the you focus the DVX on the GG and leave it there, tapped if needed.

I'm not experienced with Vegas, anyone like to help out on that one?

Flipping is Vegas is cake... just click on the upper Icon at the end of your timeline, and flip the image in the preview window. You can practise it now, by turning your presently saved videos upside down. After youve flipped your video you can make your cuts and all your fragments remained flipped... easy!?
