SGpro lens mounts

Will the SGpro feature a C/Y mount eventually? Hopefully soon?

Otherwise, what is the cheapest lenses for the mounts available that have nice and long travel on the focus ring?

We do plan on adding a stainless steel C/Y mount but we have some other projects that are taking priority right now.

If you do not already own lenses, we recommend Nikon or Canon FD.

But I keep hearing about the short throws that make pulling focus like on cinema lenses impossible... some as short as a tad under half a turn... I was looking at the Zeiss SLR Nikon mount lenses

http://www.zeiss.com/photo

and there's the older ones with the C/Y mount that used go for under half the price

http://cgi.ebay.com/Carl-Zeiss-C-Y-...VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

So it would really kill the little doubts I have on which way to go with the adapter... I mean I would love it if the SGpro could be fitted with a C/Y mount and I could start off with nearly twice the amount of Zeiss super sharp and fast glass...

EDIT: Also, there is a 180mm a 200mm and a 300mm

BTW... DXmetal on the new ZFs with the RR Follow Focus: "To get from minimum focus distance to maximum (infinity), the focus ring travels 3/4" of the lens diameter. On the Redrock FF, it takes a total of 2 1/4 turn to go from min focus distance to max infinity focus" from his thread Test: XDcam EX with 35mm Lenses (Zeiss Prime vs. Nikon f2.8 Zoom) on Letus Extreme

2 and 1/4 sounds great... but with slightly under or say exactly 1/2 turn you would get 1 and 1/2 turns on the RR... not too shabby, but likely not enough for 1.4f or tricky focus pulling on moving subjects.

There are cheaper rings avail online. Usually cost between $15-20. $80-90 will get you the high quality versions though which are great if you are having others use the gear. The cheaper rings tend to loosen under tension from poor follow focus attachment, basically the AC grinds the FF too tightly onto the lens ring and creates torque on the barrel, causing the lens to twist out of the C/Y to EOS adapter. It has happened to me on nearly every shoot that I release equipment to. Not a problem if you have common sense and use your own stuff.

thanks for the info Avenger...

and Wayne... you mean getting the ones I selected below
this picture in the Lens Mount section these right?

Will I also need the Nikon mount?

Thanks Wayne... This might be a love confession (not literally!) induced by sleep deprivation, but I should let you know that since I asked for the cash and I started doing my research you and the other guys at SGpro became my new rock-stars.

You can always get more lights, but you cant fix things like this in post.
Do you guys make fanboi T-shirts?

Hi Wayne,

I am seeing a new display photo on your bord and I am guessing that is the SG Blade is it?

I'm sure a lot of people are exicited for the SG Blade and a lot of people are waiting for it.
so can you give us an updates on your upcoming projects?
I know everything is still in development but can you just give us a time period?

Like how soon will the SG Blade come out? (Estimated)
how soon will the C/Y mount come out (Estimated)

I know you can't give an definet answear but at least any update?

(will it be within this year?)

Because the SGblade is in the final R&D stages (patent pending) we are not releasing any pricing or availability info yet. The SGblade is not a replacement for the SGpro and we will continue to sell the SGpro upon release of the SGblade. We have a number of releases still to come for the SGpro such as X/Y adjustment ring in 'flipped mode', stainless steel mounts and whips , speed cranks etc.

The SGblade is aimed to improve lightloss, grain as well as being more compact and lightweight. We are trying to keep costs down with the design but it will cost more than the SGpro.....more details to follow soon

I see the new market sector clearly already... nice surprise Wayne!
Competition is always good, especially if the products come up at the same time so there is competition from the get-go.

No, they opt to change the lens mounts on Arri/Aaton cameras to make them compatible with their lenses instead of the other way around.
