Sgpro grabs...

Ok, so I took the sgpro out with my A1 for a quick test and I would think I still have to learn how to optimize sharpness and get rid of vignetting (any advices are welcome). All these grabs are uncorrected compressed jpegs from some stuff I shot with a nikon 28mm f2.8 (I think it was closed down to f4 or more). Hopefully when my new pc arrives next week I can post some footage...I'm still learning how this baby works, so go easy on me.

my 28mm 2.8 vignetted like a bastard on my old adapter. but it just looks like you caught the edges of the adapter. nice grabs by the way, especially the last one

Thanks, guys. Vignetting is a *****, though. When I was shooting I could swear it was not there :-( Do you guys think the vignetting thing can be overcome without the use of an achromat? Because if I get this king of vignetting with a 28mm I don't even want to imagine and will happen with a 16mm or even a 20mm.

Thanks, Wayne. I think it might have something to do with the xh-a1's lcd field of view. I really didn't see any vignetting when I looked at it. I'll try to zoom in a little bit more just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, thats normal because the LCD is underscan. Best to do this in a capture window on your computer and note the zoom setting.

Macgregor's old unit huh? So this is a Rev2?

Excuse my rant for the moment and please don't take it personally.

I read post after post by people using adapters concerned about vignetting, sharpness, soft corners, etc., always illustrated with random shots taken on a jaunt through town.

I cannot fathom why all you adapter users do not invest in a ten dollar blow up of a chart from Kinkos. Everything you ever might want to know about vignetting, sharpness, f stops and which lenses do what with what will become immediately apparent. You can shoot all the lovely exteriors you want but then you are bound to get a job that demands a little something different and you'll be caught with your pants down.

Meanwhile inaccurate and incomplete information collects on this site like a land fill.

You need to test with your camera, your lenses and your adapter - there are too many vaiables for anyone else's experience to be reliable.

Sorry - nothing personal, I love the forum.

If anyone wants a file with a chart that you can take to Kinkos email me privately:

No need for apologies. You're absolutely right, Lenny. As a matter of fact I have just e-mailed you about the chart.

hahah lenny, you've been offering that chart all over the place.

i can't test my adapters because i don't own a camera...
i've owned 2 adapters and am awaiting my 3rd (sgpro), i have a bunch of lenses but i am yet to own a camera.

i just use what i can get my hands on :D

Well I can't fault you on the chart can I. Have you tried running pre- visualization tests at night while falling asleep, or while meditating in an Alpha state. Perhaps this is a way to fix soft corners and vignetting before even getting your camera.

Post results and grabs please!

Rafa, zoom up to 65% with the A1. Less than that will give you vignetting.
You can play up to 70% if you need to get closer to the subject.
More than that will be out of focus for the canon.

Keep my SGpro unit safe until i return to pick it up, ok?

Hey Rawfa,
When you get a chance mind testing the sgpro on your HV20 to see if you can get it sharp without vignetting. I have a dvx100, XHa1 and HV20, but i am really interested in seeing how this puppy will go on the hv20
thanks

Thanks, Mac! I'll keep that in mind from now on.

Oh, and keep my Red Camera safe until I return to pick it up, ok?

I don't have the step down ring. But go check out "I F*CKING HATE YOU", by Zak Forsman. It was shot with the H20 and the sgpro and it looks very good.
