SGM 2X recording distorted audio

even with the bass rolloff turned on.
I frequently have this problem on shoots and I cannot figure out how to correct it. Audio setup menu (forget the exact name) is set to -50db. ALC is turned on, I even set the gain pretty low (between 2 and 3) and I'm still getting awful distortion recorded...especially during bassy moments.
Now I have a post nightmare; mic'd an orchestra with it using a wireless sennheiser transmitter. Blowing out pretty bad.
PLEASE, any advice on how to correct this for the future and perhaps some suggestions for the post cleanup?
Thank you very much.

better check the transmitter gain setting and reciver output gain
beside that try to reed manuals before you use

Good observation. However, the problem occurs even when going XLR direct to camera. It doesn't only happen when using the wireless.

both inputs?

From what I recall in field tests, yes. But, for the sake of it, I'll try it again today using just input 2.
And it's set to mic, not line. I'm going nuts here. I don't understand why even when bass rolloff is turned on I am still getting distortion. Quick! Gotta leave for shoot in 20 min. oh boy...

UPDATE: Mic'd orchestra with a Shure handheld that I usually use to conduct interviews with. Wireless transmitter. Sound is great, no distortion, no problems (that I've noticed). SGM 2X from 300 ft or so back has no distortion issues but also does not pick up a good recording.
By my estimations, the mic just doesn't do well when in close range of loud noise. Same problems are happening when mic is camera-mounted for a party shoot. Get close to the PA system and the audio blows out. What's the solution with this mic?
