We are thinking of releasing a flip module for the SGpro so that the image is the correct way up. Current users of the Rev2 and Rev3 can buy it as an addon.

It would loose about 1 stop extra light. Price would be aimed at about £150, this would include a different achromat.

I was wondering how many users would be interested in this addon?

Dude, we already had about 5K worth of lights in a single room on KATRINA to get a nice beautiful image. What are you trying to do, blow out a city block?

Just kidding. :)

I voted "What more lightloss? Forget it" mainly because I never want to use an adapter without a monitor anyway, either a marshal or DV Rack or something. You have to have a monitor to focus properly anyway, as that little lcd is basically useless in my eyes. So flipping the image is not an issue to me, and I certainly would not give up more light for the flip. So that's one "No" vote from me.

Could be useful.

Almost seems like a version to connect directly to cameras like the XLH1 and the HD100 would be the better idea, though. Those cameras end up looking like bazookas when you put the current model on them.

Yes I would like to see the mount... mount to directly to these two cameras...

I'm in the same camp, although the more camera equipment improves the more I shy away from adapters in general... I may be DP'ing a feature this summer (fingers crossed) and if I go for an adapter it will only be one that flips.

The hvx is a stop slower than the dvx, but you also need to stop the lens down to f4 for decent sharpness with an adapter. If I want to do slow motion, I need another stop and a half. By then I'm lighting to like 20ISO, which is awful. But I would still prefer the flip to nothing.

By the way, you live in Brighton right? Any recommendations for restaurants here? I just went to grubbs and while I love the veggie burger with peanut butter on it (and a banana milk shake) I was sick for two days afterwards... Where's the best Indian in town? I hear Banker's is the best fish and chips but I haven't been there yet, either....

Voted "no" for these same reasons.

I voted "yes" because sometimes Clients get VERY nervous that the footage is upside down. Sort of like, its "ruined" or something. And the dreaded,

your footage will be upside down because of the Lens adapter you requested" The next sentence is "What? why?" "because of optics" "but how do i flip it over?" "in Editing" "wont that ruin the image?" "no its digital"....

ITtakes 30 minutes everytime.......

Also if its for studio work, where we have 20K watts on hand, its not so hard to light for it.

I don't yet have the adapter, but am definitely leaning towards the SG for when it comes time to get one. I voted "no" for the lightloss reasons, but also because I will have a monitor, so flipping won't be an issue. I'll be making mostly music videos and shorts/features with my HVX on low to no budgets <- just in case you want to know which market is voting what. Thanks!

Wayne,

I don't have an SGPro. I have an M2. (I hope you don't mind me chirping in on this thread) I believe RedRock is making a flip adapter for theirs.
I myself am not interested. If I want to lower the light I'll use ND filters. For flipping, I'll do that in post. and on the set with a monitor.

But as a product developer, why not give people options.

for £150 you might get enough people to buy it since its still affordable.

Plus you don't want people not to consider the SGPro just because you guys are not providing a solution to flip, while your competition is.

I know its an added cost to develop this, but you have already spend enough time and money to develop the SGPro, why not go a little further and to avoid giving people an excuse to not buy your unit. Even if people are not buying it with the adapter, they will definitely think, "hey, even if I don't get it now, I still have the option later" Otherwise you might have people thinking "I would get the SGPro, but it doesn't have a flip option in case I need it later"

just my 2 cents.

It seems like a good option to be offering. I'm about to put in my order for the SGPro. As it is, according to all I've read, the SG already has the least amout of light loss among adaptors therefore I think you can afford the additional 1 stop (providing that's all it is). Also, as the previous post mentions, you don't want someone not to buy it because it doesn't offer the flip solution.

Remember, it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.

And so it goes...

Oh yes, it will be an optional extra/addon, so you can still buy the SGpro without a flip. So best of both worlds, and you can add it later.

Thanks for the input guys!

I think that's the best way to go. I've been considering an adapter and was leaning twoards the Letus flip, but absolutely love the image of the SGpro (I am also under the impression that it comes with rails? That's another big plus.) But hands down if the SGpro has an add on that flips the image that I can take on and off as I please, my decision will be the SGpro. Period.

Just curious, If you built an adapter with a flip that wasn't an add on would it loose less light? enough to even care about?

Wayne sign me up great idea. Keep me informed pleased. BTW how is your follow focus coming on ??
