* I still need to get a light kit.

Anyways to the topic.

I've a desire for a 35mm DOF adapter.
I've decided upon two choices after a bit of reading and cost comparison.

My choices have come down to the Shoot35 SGBlade @ $875 + $65 [lenses mount] + [plus import / duties]
and the Cinevate Brevis $861 for mp.1 & $995 for mp.2 [though I have yet to determine the difference in the two models.]

I was curious if anyone has any working opinions of the two models?

Currently, there are 3 things that are a plus with he brevis over the sgblade:
better edge to edge, less CA, and optimized for small and large cameras (less vignetting with the hv20.)

Currently, the things the blade has over the Brevis are, less grain, ability to stop down lens past 4.0, build quality, price, easier setup, better packaging and manuals.

As for image quality... In terms of bokeh.. this is how I rate their ground glasses:

1. Roto Razor 2 (sgblade)
2. Cinefuse X (brevis)
3. Roto Razor 1 (sgblade)
4. Cinefuse 1 (brevis)

Cinefuse X barely nudges out the Rotorazor 1. Rotor Razor 1 beats Cinefuse 1 by a huge margin.

Also, again, keep in mind, that with all of these imaging elements the Sgblade will have less grain, and you will be able to stop down farther with the blade.

also, This is all just my opinion.. I'm sure others' with differ.

lol, it's an everchanging ball game. I was hoping cinevate would release the rumored grainless fiber gg at nab.. oh wells..

pardon my ignorance...but wudnt one use DSLR's for shallower D.O.F. so why buy an adapter? ( based off the first post of going to upgrade to the D90/gh1)

well it seems as if he already has an hv20 so he's trying to leverage what he has? Especially if it's a used adapter, he'd save money.. Then when the scarlet comes out he can use the lenses on the s35 or the adapter with the 2/3 scarlet. I dunno, personally jello dslrs with so so to decent compression dosn't interest me, especially when 3k cameras are on the horizon... more rez please! But yeah, it's a waste of money if he's going d90 or GH1.

edge to edge is = framing right?

they are about even on price after import and duties, correct? [wish the exchange rate was better] !

I'm just trying to wrap my head around what will be a better investment in the long term for me.

I welcome all opinions. It let's me examine things in a different LIGHT which will be very beneficial to my decision.

Yes I already have the HV20 and it's my tool that Im using to learn with.

The scarlet is my choice for an upgrade but considering price is subject to change along with release date, I'd figure I'd have a few other options to look at.

:)

And all new SGblade orders will ship with the upgraded optics that reduces CA dramatically.

Is it possible you have pics and / or video example showing how dramatic this upgrade is?

a nice before / after would be perfect.

....

future comp. with the red scarlett (2/3") is on my mind too. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Thanks a lot for the responses!

edge to edge in terms of edge to edge sharpness. The sharpness away from the center of the image can degrade depending upon the adapter.. Different adapters have better sharpness than others.. The brevis flip has better edge to edge sharpness than the sgblade, from my experience.

Hmm about the price.. I guess they may be the same.. for some reason I thought the blade was cheaper, but it could be when I was comparing it to the redrock and not the brevis.

Long term investment would be the sgblade over the brevis because it has less grain. With hi-rez cams like scarlet coming out, grain will be more apparent than ever. That being said, we're at a point in time when anything you buy right now has the risk of being out dated by this time next year.

The dslrs right now, especially the GH1 kinda replaces the indy 35mm camera setup, especially because it has amazing low light and edge to edge.. however the GH1 will be so "last week" in terms of resolution when the scarlet comes out.. see the delima? So at least with a 35mm adapter, once the scarlet comes out you can use the adapter on the 2/3 scarlet when you want 35mm type depth of fieldl, or use the lenses you buy for the sgblade on the scarlet 35.

Does anyone have a comparison of the two in terms of footage. I've shot a bit with the blade and thought the edge to edge was great on both an HVX and EX1. Haven't shot with a Brevis in ages. I hear they've come a long ways.

The Blade's build was excellent. I do find their support bracket a bit awkward in that the knobs end up knocking into each other when using a Z riser (snorkel up). Other than that, I'm a big fan. Great deal for the money and only a few ticks below an Ultimate in terms of image at less than half the price.
