sgblade + hv20

I just got the blade today. I must say that this is the first time that I've gotten somehting film related, besides my hv20, where I actually felt like I got my moneys worth. Seriously, the packaging, the included case, accessories, and the build quality are right there with what this should cost.

Not having seen any hv20+blade footage I was worried about how it handles vignetting. So far, with my preliminary tests, I haven't noticed any obvious vignetting. I'll have to do some more thorough tests later. (see below, turns out there are vingetting issues)

first impressions of sharpness seems prettygood. Also, after shooting with a vibrator over that last year or so, I'm glad to finally be freee of grain!!!!!!!!!

As for chromatic abberation, yeah, as people have been noticing, it's there and it's pretty noticeable. I'll quilcky shoot a chart tonight to expose this. If it's really bad, I'll try swapping in the brevis flip achromat to see if it improves. There is a lot of CA compared to my Brevis.

okay, so there's more vignetting than I first thought. I'm surprised to see it on the 50mm.. which sucks major ass.

Also, the sharpness is decent, except for the lower right.

The CA is exposed.

here's canon fd 28mm f/2.0

must be cool to have the blade!! thats a lot of vignetting though. i THINK your options are to increase the distance between the GG and the camera by adding a longer tube or upgrading your camera. personally the camera upgrade sounds better.

do I put a spacer between the gg and the flip module, or between the camera and the flip? I don't want to solve this by zooming if it will compromise correct "vista vision" framing.

Yeah, I'm thinking bout updrading the camera, but the thought of going bigger makes me cringe. I'm too spoiled by the form factor of this little gun.

im no expert so i dont really know. email wayne and ask him the particulars. or hopefully somebody more knowledgeable can pop an answer here. im wondering why you got the blade though because vignetting was a sure bet. there are other adapters more suitable for smaller cameras. the brevis comes to mind.

well, there was never any confimation with the blade, everyone was zipped lips. Furthermore, nobody wanted to do beta testing on the hv20, so I took the risk.
That's also why I did these tests, so other people will know.

I have the brevis already and it's nice, good edge to edge, better with vignette and CA, but I want to be able to stop down beyond 4. Still, I'll probably keep the blade because upgrading cameras in the future is inevitable.

yeah i remember you as one of the people asking about blade+hv20. sad to hear nobody gave you a definite answer. but i do remember wayne saying that the blade will work exactly the same with the hv20 as the sgpro did and to my knowledge, i've never seen hv20/sgpro footage without vignetting.

ANTshooter is correct, adding a spacer will even out vignetting. This fits in between the the HV20 and the FLIPmodule.

50mm length will certainly improve things.

We have been experimenting with this, we are hopping to release spacers for this purpose.

I added a 1.5" spacer. The 50mm lens improved and i think works great. the 28mm still is the same, though maybe it's just not a fast enough lens.

k, I have a couple spacers that stack up to 2.5 inches, I'll give it a shot, but it'll kinda start lookin goofy. The vignetting on the 28mm looks bad against a blank background, but it really isn't so noticeable against a more dressed up shot.

BTW Wayne, this adapter is a pretty darn good piece and I can tell it's design was really well thought out. Seriously easy to set up and adjust.

Wayne as you start getting data like this you should maybe start a chart that has info on which cameras need spacers and how much of a spacer.

Hey Wayne,

Outta curiosity, Granted this is off topic, how much success have you had with the Sony EX3 on your adapter. I am having really bad luck with adapters=/

ahhh!!! @#$%!!! the hv20 just died on me... damn it. Well there goes that : (

Oh wells, in 2-4 weeks expect updates, but this time with the Canon HFS100 : )
