SG pro r3 Compatible Lenses

Hello,

After scratching my head for some time now over the dozens of various Nikon lenses that I've seen, and wondering if they will work with my SG pro, I decided I'd ask here if people knew the specific kinds of Nikons that would operate with the SG pro.

The biggest thing I've seemed to find is auto iris vs. manual iris. It seems to me, all the old lenses were manual iris, while the new ones were auto iris. I can easily tell which is which if there is a photo. But perhaps there are other factors that may render the Nikon incompatible with my SG pro. When I'm going through hundreds of listings, and I want to narrow my search, I have no idea which Nikon model numbers to search for.

And then I thought, if I could ask people to list compatible Nikons, maybe I could have a post that would contain people listing the Canon lenses compatible with the SG pro's Canon FD and EOS mounts, the Minolta mount, and the the Pentax mount.

Just an idea. But in the end, it would be helpful to me to at least know specific models of Nikon lenses that I know will work with the SG pro r3.

Not any type of nikons will work, same thing goes with the canon lenses. They must have manual iris and focus control, otherwise they won't work. At least not without some lens modifications that you don't want to attempt, unless your dad owns a nikon repairshop =). It's not that your sgpro will allow some lenses to work while, lets say, Letus will allow different. They all run on manual lenses. I use a Nikon E series 50mm 1.8 lens. This is a cheap lens that really works great, and is small and dosen't bulk the unit. So begin there, find yourself a nice 50mm E, this is the lens that you will use most of the time!

So yes, go with the "old" lenses.

If you're looking at Nikon lenses on eBay, simply check "manual" under search parameters. That's basically the only requirement that's preferred for using for 35mm adapter purposes.

I used to have the SG pro. I successfully used a Nikon 1.4, Nikon 28mm 2.8 AIS, and even a Nikon 35-70 AF with absolutely no problems.

I use old Canon FD lenses with my SGBlade, they can be made manual ( iris control) with an easy "toothpick trick" all you do is jam the aperture lever in the back with a wooden toothpick or something else.. look here

Thanks everyone! So far I've been lucky enough to find three Nikon manual focus/iris lenses on eBay for pretty cheap. A 50mm, 28mm, and I've taken an experimental step in getting a 24mm lens as well.

Nice! The 24 might show some vignetting (if you're like me not into the vingetting stuff). I use 28, 50 and 100 mm nikons, that covers pretty much everything I need =)!
