SFX question for AE users

Just looking for general suggestions as I don't do a lot of compositing.

What would be the best way to make an opaque, empty container in my footage appear to have liquid in it? Should I attempt to rotoscope liquid in another layer in AE project - under or over the footage layer? if so, how to keep look of the outside of the container. This needs to look real and can't do reshoot.

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question to advanced users, I'm just looking for a direction to move in.

Can you post an snapshot of the scene... as it would help to know what the container looks like and how it fits in the scene.

Hey man, I just wanted to thank you for offering your help. I have since figured out how to do this with some help from the guys on Creative Cow. I now know how long and tedious this chore will be. Sucks. Thanks anyway.
