Sex scenes without nudity-question about actors

Hi, my new film is going to contain several sex scenes between a man and a woman. The scenes will be blocked and shot in a way that nudity will not be seen. Just like we've all seen on shows like The Shield or Breaking Bad, where actors appear naked and the scenes seem real, but no nudity is seen.

My question is, how do you dress the actors on set? Do actors wear something special to cover their private regions, that is flesh colored or smaller, so that it can allow more angles ,rather than the actor wearing underwear or a bra?

Any thoughts from people that have shot sex scenes that contain zero nudity, and what the actors wore during the scenes would be very helpful, thanks.
 
A frank conversation with your actors is probably the best way to go, but there are certainly things you can get to cover people up. Merkins, pasties, I've heard of tape for the guy's... parts... do a little search, you can ask the actors if they have any preferences on how they're covered (honestly, they probably already know exactly what they want to be covered in, so they'll probably be able to tell you what to get).
 
There are two very separate issues here:
- what's visible to the camera and therefore audience
- what's visible to the actors and crew

The first, you should know what rating you're aiming for, not a great problem, you can reveal more or less simply by moving the camera, sheets etc.

The second depends very much on the actors and their relationship with each other and the crew - some actors are total exhibitionists, others incredibly shy about anyone seeing their 'private' bits. You all need to discuss this before any shooting - uncomfortable embarrassed actors will not give good performances.
