Hey guys,

Looking to shoot a feature at the end of this month. The DP would like us to shoot sound seperate from on camera...

I have a sennheiser mkh416 and boom... Any recommendations for equipment (setup) needed to do the recording seperately...

Thanks all

Trey

Re: Setup recommendation for feature

You can always get a mixer and a Dat machine and record it 24bit vs the 16bit. Then put it into a sequencer program like Cubase,SONAR, Logic, etc and add all you music tracks and everything else you need and sync it up to you video. Just make sure to record into you camera also so that you can sync it up to video. You can assure him that you will be using the 16bit as a reference but you will add the 24bit output in post and mute the 16bit. Alot more work for only dialog but it has been done by a few people. If is too much then just tell him that dialog is only recorded anyways so the 16bit and 24bit output won't make a difference when recording actors lines. Just make sure the levels are good. A good soundman and boom operator is a must if you don't have experience in this part of production. Also you should shoot it like a feature with a clapper board to sync sound easier.
