Settings?

If you all don't mind. I have the Sony HVR-V1U and Im having some issues with the settings I guess. This was shot in 24p 1080i & as you can see, there's a weird gell like line like effect to the footage. especially in the water or other back ground. I noticed for regular interviews up close, I don't see this with people much but outside & also wide open spaces, Im seeing it. can anyone take a look at this lil vid & maybe help me understand what I'm wrong? This is my friend Noah's editing but I shot all the footage. I have just started noticing that the more I tool with settings to hone in on a better picture the weirder it gets. I dont know but if anyone can help me get it right I would appreciate it very much.

I got seasick after the first few seconds...

But if I read what I found on the web correctly, the way the camera 'records' 24p is by performing a 2:3 pulldown type operation, such that you will have to remove this in your NLE software.

If you are using something like FC Express, it does not remove the pulldown, and so you may see some artifacts remaing from the fact that FC is really thinking of it as '29.97' standard video frame rate.

If on the other hand, for some reason, you really didn't set up 24p, but in fact recorded in 1080i mode, then you are seeing the usual and customary field artifacts.

As a suggestion on camera technique... there's a reason why most professionals who do 'near hand held' use a Steady Cam, or at least a stabilizing harness... because hand held 'camera verte' is merde... and what's more, movement accentuates the artifacts...

Yeah the footage wasn't for a specific project or anything, just for fun. I was only shooting because I was sick & couldn't surf so i knew I wouldn't be out for long & didn't bring my tripod. The wind was blowing at about 35 MPH, it was like 8 degrees & it was difficult to stand still. Surfers don't care much about that, they just want to see waves. I took 1 for the team & shot with a 102 fever. It was a biatch for sure!

Anyway, We used FC pro. My friend edited it but maybe its me, uploading it incorrectly?
