Just purchased a steadycam jr without monitor.
Initially I was worried about not having the monitor but the dvx's one is more than adequate.
Secondly it is so damn heavy BUT you just learn to switch hands and I find I could go for longer than the 15minutes people have quoted.
Finally for those who are interested I will share the settings I discovered. This is for the camera with the largest size battery and make sure that your lcd screen is open when you are adjusting it. I was setting it up for a second time with it closed and couldnt get it to stop swinging to the opposite side from the lcd!
Mount in hole 3. Then adjust the fore and aft slide to the middle. The side to side slide shoulb be fully turned to the full right- you can see the markings at the front of the stage even though the nob is at the back of the stage.
I used the two dummy batteries and nil other weights and the hinge for the lower arm was the "heavy" one.
I twisted the screw above the ball joint just one turn away from fully screwed in.
The video that came with the kit was fantastic and made everything very clear. The results I have been able to get with a few hours practise have been fantastic.
I was very doubtful about buying the steadycam because it had a weight limit of 4lbs but note on the tiffen site they have a new cookbook on the settings that include the dvx100 however my settings above will definitely work whereas their didnt for me and they did not mention anything about the lcd being open( I guess you dont need it if you bought the monitor but that almost doubles the cost).
Hope this helps someone.
