SETTINGS, Settings, settings....

Re: SETTINGS, Settings, settings....

[quote author=10s link=board=news;num=1104949261;start=0#3 date=01/05/05 at 22:00:07]I recently took out my color chip chart & tweaked the color phase & such through DVRack to what my eye sees. The DVX is way off. Maybe someone has an answer for this but I finally got most of the colors to reproduce a little but closer than the cameras normal settings.

Wouldn't it all depend on the lighting conditions, too? Our eyes (okay, our brains) do some color correcting for us.

Maybe try it lighting the chip chart with tungsten, adjust the settings so it looks right, then hit the chart with daylight. The settings still work?

Re: SETTINGS, Settings, settings....

I would think the type & intesity of the lighting would affect the color as well as my own eye sight/ brain interpretation. It's something I still play around with. As can be seen below, there is plenty of room for variable factors to influence the whole.

here is a chain of factors I try to consider:

Incident light: daylight or artificial, tungsten, flours, ... elevation, city smog, country setting, etc...

foot candles: on subject = foot lamberts/ reflected light. (equivelent)

camera: ASA, fstop, focus, color temp, white balance, internal settings, frame rate.

monitor: (calibrated, avg. performance on bell curve) ambient light, viewing conditions, screen angle...

eye sight: age, (20/20 +/-) bell curve avg. vision.

brain interpretation: (+/-) avg of color.

White background. Fog Machine. DVX set to F6 , 1/15. Iris open. 2 650w lights and I came up with the perfect angel in heaven kind of look.

Here are a few thoughts after watching this curious behavior for a few days:

Why is it that most everyone is acting a liitle strange (IMO) when someone simply suggest we share ideas... (radical idea?...no I don't think so given the circumstance)...it appears that people are trying to protect the good work Barry has done with the creation of his book, & while I applaud this noble effort it does seem strange. It's also easier for people to say . . . "buy Barry's book!"

Re: SETTINGS, Settings, settings....

I like to put a pink filter on my DXV, crank up the shutter and shoot cute little bunny rabbits with it.

Oh, no, wait, that's my twelve-gauge. I get them mixed up, sometimes.

Boy, do actors ever hate it when that happens...

Re: SETTINGS, Settings, settings....

I Tried the orangish, it is the best one ive tried for bright sun, but it still have some "plastic" look, ill try to make some corrections to make it more organic.
