settings from FCP to DVDSP

I'm editing some 24PA material I brought into FCP using the advanced pulldown method. I'm exporting it using Compressor with the mpeg-2 60 min high quality export for 24p material. Once I got it to DVDSP however, it said that the bit rate was too high.

So I made my own mpeg-2 60 min 24p high quality with a lower bit rate. Now when I'm finally able to burn a DVD, the quality just doesn't look top notch to me.

I'm burning, obviously, on regular DVD-r media from my laptop's Superdrive. I want the absolute top-o'-the-line, hollywood quality DVD when I'm all done (with about 45 minute's worth of material). Can I do this? What settings should I use in Compressor? In DVDSP? Maybe can some of you post a step I may be missing? Do I need to add any pulldown back to the video for the final product? I'm still sort of shaky on this 24p stuff.

TIA,
Chico

Re: settings from FCP to DVDSP

I actually have similar questions, however I can tell you that I have been searching for a good DVD SP solution, because I have found that the compressor in DVD SP2 doesn't work well for me quality wise. The reason you get bit rate too high may actually be because your audio is too high. Thus convert that using the AC-3. Then you should be able to use a higher bit rate. What I am experimenting with is using a product called DV film to convert my regular dvcam footage (originally shot on 35mm) to de-interlaced. And then using a seperate compressor outside of DVD sp2 to make an mpeg 2 file. My research has led me to a program called Bitvice witch I am slowly experimenting with...However I think the end results from what I can tell after using their demo are significantly greater. Having said that, I have not made the commitment to the purchase of it yet, because it is pricey and I am looking for other solutions.

Thanks for the post back. Have you tried Compressor for creating your mpeg-2's?
