Settings for multiple generations ?

I'm editing some AVCHD footage in Vegas, so if I want to export some shots into After Effects or pass them through Deshaker, I can't obviously use the .MTS files as in Vegas.

What would be the best format/settings to use when exporting a clip from Vegas in order to work it on other programs,
and then Re-export it to bring it back for edit in Vegas?

I tried using simple .AVI (uncompressed), but it gives me like 2 gigs of filesize for 20 sec...

What is your workflow when having to work/render a file through multiple generations without losing quality?

thanks!

You can use lossless compression e.g. lagarith, huffyuv, UT , or sheervideo

Or visually lossless e.g. cineform , which is still suitable for quick editing (multithreaded decoding is fast) , or dnxhd if you need .mov and mac compatibility

They will all give you huge filesizes (~1/2 size compared to uncompressed)
