setting? what am i missing

well im new to editing so its probably something simple but i must be missing a setting. The footage from the a1 looks good and im happy with the look of it and have tweaked it to where i want it but when i put it into vegas it doesnt look good and definitely doesnt come out good. what is the obvious that i may be missing.

well the footage kind of pixelates or gives the appearance of and lacks sharpness but im stumped since it looks good on camera. The footage in camera is night and day compared to footage on computer.

A friend commented that i have a knack for getting good footage but so far i suck at editing. im sure i will figure it out eventually. Im wondering if it was the tape since ive used the tape quite a few times now. its practice footage so no big deal but im very new to editing so ive got alot to learn through trial and error.

Footage often looks better on the camera's LCD than it does on a computer screen. The LCD hides a lot of potential flaws, not least being the color sampling (which could well explain the "blockiness" you're seeing). Footage may also look sharp on the small LCD, but not so much once you get it into the computer.

The tape doesn't matter, either; digital is digital and as long as you get all the 1s and 0s, the video is the same no matter what. If there's something physically wrong with the tape and you get dropouts (lost data), you'll see blocks of missing or jumbled areas in the footage, but you won't see anything like soft focus or ghosting or pixelation. Recording digital isn't like recording analog, where the tape quality can affect image quality. It's just like using an Excel file. You get the data, or you don't.

So, there's very likely nothing wrong in Vegas. But if you can post some screen shots, maybe we'll see something. Include the exact project and/or render settings.

Just to ask... are you talking about the final export quality or the in-Vegas preview quality?

I was thinking the same, you might just be viewing your preview box at auto. If its the export, your setting may be all thats wrong.

Yes the lcd does often look better, but if it looks really good then it should still have some decent quality when you bring it into vegas.

Can u tell us what setting your using and what your preview window is set at.
