Setting up SD302 with beta camera?

Hey folks,

I pretty much never shoot beta but have been asked to do a shoot with one this monday. Problem is, Im so used to shooting on digital cameras Im a bit clueless about how I should set up and run my 302 to work with the analogue system?

just curious to know what level tone to send, whether to attenuate my output, and what to set the tone at on the camera end.

and then of course, where I should ride my peaks, and what limiting settings to use...

thanks,
Tim

I run my SD 302 with my Sony BVW400 a lot for regular news assignments and have no problem switching over to my DVX 100a.

You may be over thinking this from my perspective but...simply set your Betacam tone level to zero. Normally with other digital cameras I'll set the tone to minus 20 but with non digital Betacam I have no problems setting the tone to zero.

Run your 302 just as you would for any other shoot. There's no real need to change the tone level on the 302 end. Just on the Betacam.

You won't have any problems.

I'm assuming you are talking about an analog Betacam and not a digital Betacam.

set the ton for + 6 db on 302 ,Set thee camera for -0db , , work regulary that the picks will hit the +10 -12 , set the limiter for +14db

report back - went well, its weird working with an analog camera, it just doesnt really ever distort (well, thats a lie, but onset is so slow - analogue, yes i know)..

one question i have - are what level on the camera should dialogue average at? is -5 too low? i was always pushing for 0 today, which makes sense, but i was curious about the softer parts of speech? where does signal to noise become unacceptable?

ok, thats cool, thats where i was most times (0+)... i noticed no distortion on return, so i pushed my levels...
