Setting up a playback monitor.

I was just wondering what the best way to set up a real-time monitor set up to a dvx would be?

Just so I could be able to see what kind of footage we are getting during a crane shot. Thanks in advance.

I use a Mini DV camera for playback when I use my crane and I put a screw where my crane connects to the tripod and screw the cam on there. But I have also used TV's set on the floor, both work. Just hook up the video output on the cam to the video input on the device...you might need a converter depending on the device.

Just one other suggestion if you're looking for compact size with no AC cable, Best Buy sells these little folding DVD players for about $129 with a battery and a 5" screen, and they take a video input through a converter cable (RCA to mini). They work great, and give a decent image just for tracking action. :) They also serve dual purpose, you can use them later to show people your movie without lugging around a laptop.

Anytime! :) I had to figure that out pronto on my last shoot when I needed a monitor on a Sunday and all the pro shops were closed.

im not shooting for a month but i'm starting to set aside the money right now.

and it probably would be convenient to have a portable dvd player anyways.

thanks.
