setting for 720p QT H.264 webvideo

I have NEVER been happy with trying to push 720p to the web. I would suggest you do what I did. Go to the Apple Movie Trailers site, download a few HD trailers, and open up the Quicktime Movie Inspector window and see what they are using.

The trailer I have up right now (Wanted with Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and Morgan Freeman) is 1280x688 h.264 encoded, AAC 5 channel audio, 6.35 mbits.

At 2 minutes, 14 seconds, it's 101MB in size. I hope you're not planning on streaming these... :)

I have an HVX and always shoot 720pn. Are you saying that on projects that
are destined only for the web, I would be better off shooting say 480, because the final file size will be smaller?

No. I am saying shoot 720p, but render for the web at something smaller *IF* you intend for people to watch them streamed. If you intend for people to download them first, then by all means leave them at 720p, use H.264 to compress and make the best quality stuff you can.

But when you start asking people to download a gig to watch your 20 minute short, you have to be aware there is a very limited audience for that. Youtube kicks everyone's but because you an play the videos on an iphone. The quality is AWFUL, but the average public does not care.
