Setting aperture

Hey. I have a range of Nikon lenses at my disposal (theyre my brothers') to use on a DOF adapter (redrock, which I am renting soon).

On these lenses, there are no manual controls to open or close the aperture - it all happens within the camera. How can I set the aperture to what I need on the DOF adapter?

Connect the lens to SLR camera, set the aperture, then remove it and replace onto the DOF adapter?

Yep, I use my canon L series lenses which are electronic, gotta have the SLR there to change the f-stop. Its really not as bad as it sounds
