set up for a live stream

Hello,

What is the best way to live stream a single camera presentation to another city (on a projector)? If money is not an issue, and image quality is a priority - I'm wondering which camera, what it's connected to and what is at the other end.

If money was an issue, is quality the biggest sacrifice you'd make to start saving or is the biggest expense in a piece of gear that enables this long distance stream?

I've searched many threads but none are quite what I'm after. Thanks for helping

I've been live streaming using HVX200A > FireWire > Macbook Pro > Ustream Producer Pro > Ustream.tv for a long time and it looks good. One nice thing is that if the presenter is using powerpoint etc. you can screen capture over wifi from the presenter's computer and cut to it if you want to show it clearly. I'll also add that the software doesn't support DVCPRO-HD, it's DV or HDV only so you may want to use a camera with HDV if you need real HD.

@wolverine and c lehmann - thanks for the info - it helps to hear of set ups to expand options/solve problems in the field.

The "best" way would be to actually route the video signal via fiber to the other city. I am not sure exactly how it is done or the companies that provide the service but it is very common for broadcasters to do. It's is the best way for image quality but VERY expensive. This is how they route live video from the white house and other places back to the news stations control room. As far as streaming goes, for higher end jobs people commonly use Akamai.

Hope that helps.
