Set Medics

At first glance before opening, the thread title looked like a new reality series... "Set Medics" ... "Things were lookin' fine 'till a pyro goes horribly wrong! - This Wednesday right after... "

Things were looking' fine 'till someone tweaked a light while Christian Bale was in the middle of a take...

lol,

It's not a bad idea, but you would need to be bonded and insured, because if someone did get hurt, and you applied medical attention in an incorrect manner, where the patient gets worse off, then your at risk to be sued. It's sad we have to think like this but in a day where everyone is sue happy and looking for the quick patday, it's a real prospect.

We had an off-duty cop as a set medic on a short I shot last summer. We had him on-set the day we shot the horse running shots in case the riding double fell, etc.

Since most people here won't even pay to insure their production I'd highly doubt they'd ever even consider employing a set medic.

I hired a paramedic for a fencing competition. No one got injured, but he did have ice to give out. Traded hours for hotel room back when I was working at hotel. Love those trade-offs. Look at sporting events. You might find some side jobs there. High school, college, etc.
