I have been working on this set extension 0:10-0:20. I would like to hear your opinions and suggestions. There was just blue sky behind him. Well, I thought it was blue but it turned out to be gray. This made the chroma key nearly impossible. I could not figure out keylight. Here is a raw still frame if you want to have a go at it.

I played with it a bit in AE and couldn't key it. I recommend rotoscoping (masking frame by frame) to do this. Yes, it's a pain in the ass, but it's necessary. Sorry.

One way of doing this is to put a colorama effect and adjust the output colorwheel so you have a solid color for the sky. Then add keyligth and use that layer as alpha matte.

[TD="align: left"]I agree with JonMar, that's most likely the cleanest solution (without having to buy any third-party plugins). The fortunate thing about this particular shot is that the sky is a solid, even color which makes it fairly easy to extract an alpha or luma matte from. You should have no trouble removing the sky with this technique.

I had a little time and attached something you can pick apart. You will find this method will "key" a number of things you run into but you have to know where it can be properly applied; in many cases, it can be just the right way to go about things. As a matter of fact, I posted this exact solution for someone else on the forum just a few days ago. Good luck.

I ended up using about 4 chroma keys and a luma key. All with low thresholds and some feathering. The original, non-youtube compressed video does not look great around the feet. But I think it's good enough.
