Seriously.

There are artistic benefits to sharpening a pencil by hand using a razor blade or knife, and some types of pencils (soft charcoal, etc) actually require it, but any artist should know / learn how to do this.

But the thing I found most disappointing about the website was the misleading url. Nowhere on that website did they compare art to anal pencil sharpening.

This is a joke, right?

Actually, nevermind. The website answered that for me:

"If you think it's a joke, why don't you poke yourself with your newly sharpened pencil? Or better yet, don't -- because it'll really hurt. In fact, every pencil David Rees sharpens is shipped with a signed and dated certificate authenticating that it is now a dangerous object".

On a serious note, blade sharpened pencils are way better. That's all I use, although I'm mostly on pens now since I don't draw. Not that it's hard to sharpen them yourself. It's a good a skill to have just in case the point ever wears on these.
