Seriously, I need a fake expandable baton.

I have a character whose an earthbound demonic soilder. At some point my character engages him. The issue is I have a preference not to get hit upside the head or in the ribs with a real steel baton, as much as the actor prefers not to have a real piece of wood driven into his heart. While I have a wooden stake and the half piece and have worked tirelessly on dusting effects for the vamps and demon creatures, I do not have a fake expandable baton and the one I made broke. Anyone know where to get one?

Dude, just pull the Omar prison trick, duck-tape phone books around you mid-section under your costume.

Also seen in Burn Notice...

I happen to agree with the body armour suggestion. It should be easy to find something that displaces the force of the blow - some thick hardened leather, rows of tightly packed cotton...

And remember...just because it needs to look like the hits are full force doesn't mean he actually has to try to take out your liver or crack a rib. Speed is only part of the equation in hitting someone, and can usually be achieved with little of the real "power" behind a blow.

I don't know guys. I've hit myself accidentally with one once while just testing it out and it's wasn't even a hard blow and it hurt like heck. I think I'll take my fake one to home depot and see what they can do first. LOL, then I'll consider other...scarier options. I would like a real one simply because I'd like to own one but I'd think twice about using them as fighting props. Although I will admit I am wearing a bulking jacket in the scene.

It would be easy enough to make but anything that won't crumple on impact, will still smart when you get hit without padding.
I vote for the armor and suck it up suggestions.

Remember that while he's hitting you, whatever he hits you with will be in fast motion, meaning it'll be blurry as hell and move really fast.
If you have something of around the right length and color and shape, that's all you need. You can show the real one before he strikes, and the audience will just naturally assume it's the same thing he's holding in that hand in the next shot.

That's what I was counting on with the one I made. It held up until we started practice. I'm thinking if I slide another piece over it, it will hold it together and make it solid. Going to Home Depot tomorrow probably.

I mentioned this in my thread in the user film forum, but I have changed the demon's weapon to a bladed handbo, so we'll both be fighting with similar weapons. With the demonic assassin being indeed an assassin, it was pretty silly that he'd fight with a baton. His handbo breaks open like mine. He has a sliver blade and I have the stake. The choreography is the same.
