whether you like anime and reading subtitles, there's not that much dialogue, this is just one of the weirdest show's i've ever seen. it is, i think, for an adult audience.. not that it's hentai or anything, just it's slow and on a deeper more complex level of thinking and confusion than most tv shows i've ever seen.

if i had so say what it's about... i'd say the future of the internet. but to be honest i'm still not sure what it's suppose to be about.

anyway i'd recommend it to anyone who has the time to watch 13 half-hour examples of why the japanese are insane. it does have a limited audience.

episode 1 is at the top of this page http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=syeroku&page=2
and then the rest are on pages 1, 2 and 3 of this thing. work it out.

anyone else seen it?

Lain is one of the best anime you'll ever watch.

If you like Lain, check out Boogiepop Phantom, Monster, Paranoia Agent. They're also disjointed like Lain is, and rather frightening. Real mind-fux. And most Anime (excluding DBZ and a few others) are more complex than most live-action TV dramas. They're really in-depth. Even Naruto is twisted in an all-out-battle sort-of-way.

the best i've seen are;
wolfs rain, death note, lain, cowboy-bebop, FLCL, samurai champloo, neon genesis and the fist 40 or so eps of bleach.

i tried to watch naruto and DBZ but after about 100 eps of the same stuff. it just gets a bit boring. fighting fighting fighting joke fighting.

about a 3 years ago i started hating tv, with the exception on one or two shows like the mighty boosh or black books. i just started getting movies from the video rental place. once i'd seen nearly all the decent ones they had. took almost 2 years. the only thing that now entertains me is this amime crap. i don't know why.

I got totally hooked on Anime after watching Ghost in the Shell. Unfortuntaly that is one of the best animes ever made so a lot of the stuff that came after has been a big let-down. one exception is the Miazaki stuff - Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, Iunasha and the Valley of the Wind, Totoro etc.

I think what makes anime so interesting is that it's completely off-centre from what us euromericans are used to both in terms of storylines, content matter and how the stories are told. just imagine what would happen if someone proposed one of these projects to a hollywood produciton company:

animator: ... and the big grey monster lives underneath a magic Camphor tree and then the little girl runs away because she's pissed at her mom and gets lost in his lair

production company: and then the monster kills her?

animator: no. the monster is nice. and he has two friends: a small blue one and an even smaller white one. no, then the big cat-bus comes and flies them off

production company: cat bus?

animator: yes. it's a cat that is a bus. and the girls get some magic acorns that grow an enormous forest. but the next day the forest is gone. oh, and the mother is mortally ill and that's why they are so upset.

production company: riiiiiiight

animator: oh, and did I mention that the black dust dots are alive and have eyes and they hide when you spot them?

production company: the dust is alive.........

animator: yes - because they are actually ghosts or something like that.

production company: riiiiiight.... we'll get back to you on that one

animator: I have another idea: what about a little girl who gets lost in a themepark that turns out to be a portal into the ghost world and she gets trapped there and meets a friend who turns out to be a dragon and there is an evil witch with a gigantic head that has a servant who is three bouncing heads and there's a big green sludge monster and big floating masks and the dust is alive there as well.

production company: .......

animator: and did I mention the moving castle which is a wizzard who is a big bird and he lives in a big pile of trash that is a moving castle/machine type thing that is held up by a magic fire that ate his heart and there's a charmed man who has turned into a scarecrow and the girl is transformed to an old woman by an evil witch and there's a dog that makes weird breathing sounds.

production company: does your doctors know you are not in your padded room?
