I recently switched over to a dedicated machine to edit video. I can't of been paying too much attention to the default setup of sequences in FCP as it turns out that I threw all of my 1080p and 720p ProRes footage from my HMC40 and 7D onto a 1440 x 1080, 25 frames per second, HD pixel aspect ratio timeline!!!
I did my edit and ended up exporting this to H.264 for youtube but I'd like to actually have the footage on a sequence with the correct settings - an HDTV 720p timeline should do the trick. I have the original encoded footage in ProRes with in and out points so I should be able to use Media Manager to create a new project with the correct setting but when I attempt this I get a warning about the preset's frame rate .....
The frame rate of the preset chosen for recompression differs from the items in your selection. The preset's frame rate will be ignored and the original frame rate if the items in your selection retained.
So my main question is why doesn't the media manager grab the original footage that is at 30p ???
(I guess the bigger question is how the hell did I not notice I was using some esoteric sequence preset - 25fps and HDV pixels ??!! Some of my footage was 1080p ProRes HQ and other footage was captured at 720p ProRes (std) so perhaps this is what confused it. Hmmmmm )
