Sequence settings for 16:9?

I shot a project in letterboxed 4:3 24PA and want to create a DVD with both regular and widescreen options. How can I go about doing this? What aspect ratio do I need to use in my Sequence Settings (in a 23.98 timeline).

Don't all DVD players have an option to view widescreen movies as letterbox, anamorphic or a 4:3 centre-crop? That way the viewer can decide?

If you shot letterboxed 4:3, then you're pretty much out of options as cropping that further for full-screen 4:3 is going to look pretty ropey as you just don't have the resolution to do that. In your sequence settings, just standard DV is correct, 4:3.

SD video is 4:3 - you're mixing pixel aspect ratio with the final aspect ratio of the finished viewed piece of video. DV is a non-square pixel aspect ratio format of 720x480 pixels that produce a 4:3 finished image on a TV set.

if you want to have both full screen and widscreen options, the film should have been shot with widescreen in mind. If you cut a film shot in full screen i imagine you'd be cutting of their heads. However, shooting it in widescreen and then cropping it would result in a dramatic loss in resolution.

I'm thinking you have to Render out a 4:3 Version and a 16:9 Version separately and put them both on DVD.

Why 4:3? (puke)

You can do it. Create a new sequence that matches the preset you are working on, and check the box 16:9 anamorphic, in the seq. settings.

Throw your sequence in that sequence and resize it so it shows up full screen (you might have to chage the aspect ratio). Output it to DVD and make it a 16:9 DVD. That should work...
