Sequence setting question

Footage is shot at DVCpro 50 16:9. Should the "anamorphic" box be checked in sequence settings since it's 16:9? Outputting to BetaSP for broadcast. Sequence setting is NTSC DV50.

When checking the box I don't see a difference in the video on the output monitor (in canvas it stretches vertically)...black bars appear on top/bottom on 4:3 monitor. But the graphics are affected. Just not sure about proper setting
 
All the 16:9 setting does is make the frame look right while editing in FCP. The footage itself will be 720x480 no matter what.(assuming we're talking NTSC)

But that said, yes the 16:9 checkbox should be checked so it looks proper as you edit. Make sure your sequence is also set to 16:9.
