Seperate Vocal

What is the bestway to remove vocal on the song mp3 file. I just want to use the music not the singer vocal. I talk a lot while I am shooting video. I want to mute my voice. I know how to do this in PPRO by muting my voice on timeline but it is tedious. If I bring the clips to Adobe Audition can you tell me what effects need to be used. Or if I bring MP3 file to Adobe Audition how do I remove the vocal only.

Thanks

Here's an answer... but try searching google before you ask.

Okey, okey, let me to explain some things.....the process in fact is very simple, the only way to remove a "vocal" from an existing recording is inverting the phase... yes !!, everybody remember that funny program named Cool Edit from Syntrillium Software??, Yes !!, (now is called Adobe Audition....), well, this program was designed by an experimented audio engineer and incluides a bunch of excellent plugins, one of them named "voice remover or vocal remover".

When you have an open mix or track by track production, you only have to push the mute button over the voice track, but when you take the mix down in stereo channels all the sounds are mixed in two tracks (left and right) and the process is more complex, everybody are right in this forum, the EQ is usefull to "cut away", the vocals, but try this...

When you invert the phase of the channels, one of them is cancelled because is 180 degrees oposite to the other!!, the result is a dual mono file (the same audio data in both tracks), an yes, with the phase inverted in one channel you can obtain a cancellation of certain frequencies.

Unfortunately this process is very selective and depends on the way that the mix was made !!, if you have some instruments out of phase or FX in the original mix, when you invert the phase in a stereo mix down file, ONLY that instruments are removed....and maybe the vocals too !!, but guys, actually there are not a viable process to make the job exactly how we need, and the results are so unexpected from one stereo file to other.

My recomendation is, try with this "vocal remover" includes on Adobe Audition (before Cool Edit Pro) or go to www.analogx.com, this guy is making a free software and you can found a lot of funny stuff there !!

im not sure what you're trying to do if you mention yourself talking. that sounds scary... you cant talk an operators voice out of a piece of footag and leave the rest of the audio behind... if thats what you're trying to do.

There are two completely separate issues here:

If you're trying to remove the lead vocals out of an older stereo MP3, then you can try what Jeremy suggested. Karaoke machines work on the same principal: the music often has a wide stereo image, while the vocals used to be mixed dead center, so inverting the phase of one channel would cancel the vocals (and anything else mixed dead center, often snare and kick) while leaving the majority of the music intact. Note that for quite a while now, major record labels have been mixing the vocals slightly to the left, partly to prevent people from doing this.

If your (camera operator's) voice was picked up by whatever mic you were using to record the scene, then you have to either selectively cut (mute) it out or mute the entire track and learn ADR and foley. There would effectively be no stereo imaging on the recording, even if you used the built-in camera mics so the above "trick" would either do nothing or cancel out your entire track.
