Separating video and audio.

I found it was much easier to separate the audio tracks from a sync-ed video piece in FCP 3. Any ideas on how to separate them? They seem permanently linked in FCP 4.0.

I plan to do an incredible amount of re-recording of sound and voice-overs, or laying audio over a non-synced piece.

..im not an FCP user , so i probably should just mind my own business concerning your question, but if you cant seperate the audio within the NLE , in most NLEs there is the option to export only audio, so yu could theoreticaly import the clip, and export the audio from the timeline, and then simply import the seperate audio clip to use. hope this helps.

Turn off the tag "link" under modify and presto, the audio floats free from soundtrack. It is actually very simply under FCP4.

Generally, when using revoice and voice over, the project is edited with its original sound kept synced on track 1 and track 2, and then at the last step the unwanted audio is unlinked and eliminated. This allows you to maintain good sync and keep the parts you want, and refer to it as you want. You can turn the channels off to hear the audio without it.

You can lock your video track and then delete the audio track. Sometimes I use audio from another shot and place under the video of another shot. Just make sure you lock the video track if you have them both linked. Then you can do what you want with the audio track and it wont mess up the video.

LOL.... it's TOO easy is the problem. One of the most simple things you can do with a very basic keyboard shortcut

Shift + L

This stands for "Linked Selection" which you can find the button for ON the timeline title bar to the far right side, it's the one with the dotted square and a diagonal bar in it.
