Sennhesier G2 Wireless Mic (A or B)?

Hello Everyone,

I am brand new in this forum but have been actively been looking around it and I find everyone guidance and knowledge very useful!

Anyways Im looking to buy a wireless system especially a G2 Wireless system. I have been looking at these and as (not an audio pro) I find it hard to pick and know the difference about these. I am just looking for a good wireless mic that will be able to Connect with my XH G1 on my camera with XLR.

Thanks for your input guys!:)

-What is the difference between the A and B UHF Wireless System?
-Also these include the microphone correct, because I click what it includes, and it does not accurally say the mic it just says mic clip.
- Isnt Link One and Two the same?

The difference is in frequency range

A: 518 - 554MHz
B: 626 - 662MHz C: 740 - 776MHz

We are in the US so we use Model A, they are great we have 4 sets of them, crystal clear, no static!
Hope this Helps! Cheers

Chris welcome aboard and the Sennheisers work great. I think either A or B are fine just do not invest in the C (700 mhz) models.

You just need to read the description carefully, it says it all. One set comes with the ME2 microphone which is omnidirectional, the other comes with the ME4 microphone which is a cardioid lavalier microphone. And before you ask again: How about googling "omnidirectional" and "cardioid"?

you should definitely look into replacing the stock microphone. the countryman b6 is a popular model that has amazing results. its also very small so its easy to hide.

Don't forget that G2 is being replaced by G3!

The G3 pocket (on camera) receiver is now diversity (the G2 wasn't).

G3 has a wide 42MHz switching bandwidth and the ranges suitable for the USA are:
Range A = 516 - 558 MHz
Range G = 566 - 608 MHz
Range B = 626 - 668 MHz

When I purchased my G2 kits, I noticed that one kit was A and one kit was B. I am thinking that this is a good thing when I am using both kits at the same time. Is that correct?

Also, I have read here where folks recommend replacing the ME2 Lav mic that comes with the G2 kit. I am no audio expert but have found that the Me2 that comes with the G2 does a pretty darn good job. Recently I interviewed a family sitting around their kitchen table "island". I had one camera hooked up to a boom mic about in the center of the island, overhead. That was an Octava Mic. On the other camera, I had the ME2 hooked up to the principal speaker. I figured that would be better for her because she tended to speak very softly. She was seated at the front of the kitchen island and her family in a circle all the way around the back of the island. Six people total. I was extremely surprised that the ME2 had the best sound and it picked up all the dialog from the other family members seated about 6 feet further away from the wired speaker up front. All the audio sounded at about the same level and even the people speaking in the back did not sound like they had less volume...Still trying to figure that out!!! Pretty pleased though.

I'm just guessing, but with the mic clipped to one person seated at the table, and everyone else seated around the same table, you were getting something like a "boundary" effect from the table, even though the mic wasn't actually on the table.

My biggest problem with the ME4 that came with our Sennheiser kit is that it just looks cheap and I'm afraid I'm gonna break it every time I look at it... :)

That's funny.

These stock Sennheiser lavs do break, but most of the time we've found that it's from the cable getting stretched. We've had a few frantic emergency last minute calls to replace them on a Friday to FedEx overnight for Saturday delivery - crazy expensive. Most of the time I tell them not to invest in another ME2 or ME4, but to go take a listen to the Countryman B6 at http://www.dvcreators.net/countryman-b6-lavalier/. If you thought the ME2 sounded good, then you're going to think the Countryman sounds damn good! It's all about the placement :)

Glad John mentioned the G3. Across the board G3 upgrades vs G2:
Better Freq response, better tuning bandwidth (42 Mhz), new hand-held design, swappable capsules, switchable output power, diversity on the camera mount receiver.

You can run about 20 systems together in one version if you use the recommended frequencies. It's not a problem at all.

The ME 2 is an OK mic. for the price - the optional MKE 2-ew is much much better, though.

i've been using the tram tr50's for a while and although i had heard how awesome the b6's were i still had been holding off on purchasing. mainly waiting to step up to lectro's. but i recently came up on a sweet deal for 2 b6's and i'm very glad i pulled the trigger on that.

anyone looking for a used tr-50 wired for senns?

Is the Omni directional mic that comes with it to sensitive? Im looking for a good piece for audio interviews and for like outdoors/indoor news reporting and Im afraid because its omni- I will be picking up alot.

I just played with a G2 I borrowed from my church and compared it to my ATW-u100. Not sure if the ME2 or ME4 was on the G2. AT899 on the u100. The G2 sounded a little better... but there was no hiss/noise/static like there is in the u100 that's been driving me nuts. None what so ever that I could hear. Since I'm at work, I borrowed a DPA and slapped it on the G2 just for fun... nice. The fact that it takes a total of 4 "AA" batteries as opposed to quickly sucking down 3 9v's and the receiver is only half the size of the u100 is also a bonus.

If the G3 is all Shawn said it's supposed to be... I have a sneaking suspicion that he's going to be getting more money from me before too long. :)

What's wrong with the C (700 mhz) model?

Version "C" is totally illegal in the USA now!

But I think you can use the new "GB" version in the USA as well as versions "A", "B" and "G" - check with Sennheiser USA. The "GB" version may be a good bet if you want to record in the USA and the UK.
