Sennheiser SKP500 compatibility between the G1 and G2 series

Here's a one million dollar question: is a SKP500 plugon transmitter from the evolution G1 series supposed to be working fine with G2 EW100 receivers? I've heard something about the need to switch off the pilot tone squelch system on G2 units to make them backwards compatible with the previous ew series. Is that the only requirement to make it work? Are there any drawbacks?

Asking cause I already own a G2 belt pack set and I've got a chance to buy a G1 SKP500 unit at a really low price, but I wanted to check out for compatibility in the first place.

Tks.

I can't see how there's any issue of compatibility between ANY receiever and transmitter of ANY brand and ANY year... if the frequencies match then it would pretty much have to work.

The only thing I can imagine is a digital situation with privacy encoding... but for lower tech stuff like ordinary wireless... I can't see there being an issue.

I'd love to hear if I'm wrong... but if so please explain the significance of the pilot tone... isn't that simply tied to the actual frequency? Like it is an operator choice of dropping out versus hiss/static ?
