Sennheiser MKH60 date of release

Hi all, I have been offered sennheiser MKH60, but the guy said it could be from the 1970's. He doesn't want much for it but the age is bothering me. I didn't think the mic had been out that long and was brought out to replace the 416.

Do MKH60's go back that far in time? If not when were they launched? I have done a search on Google but no luck. The owner picked it up at a car boot sale (garage sale) of all places a few months ago for £5! ($9) Talk about being in the right place at the right time. He tested it and it works.

I Don't think he knows much about it at all, not being interested in this type of thing.

I thought it was launched in the 90's. Hmmmm I think I will try and get the serial number. Don't want any nasty shocks in the future, with a knock at the door from thr boys in blue.

£5 for an MKH60!!!!!

Only a pro would buy one, and I doubt they would sell it on at a car boot sale. Probably nicked!

The seller is pretty decent and does a lot of boot and garage sales. his house is an aladins cave of all types of junk. He is a bit of a Del Boy but no thief.

Interestingly, I picked up a Sennheiser ew100 transmitter and reciever, together with a lav from a guy ealier this year who paid £3 for it at a car boot sale in Ringwood. he didn't really know what it was at the time but thought it was worth a gamble. I took it off him for £120 and it works perfectly and looks as new.

So things do show up in strange places.

And by the way its a bargain but not a total bargain. He's looked up what its worth so I won't get it for a tenner!

I didn't mean he nicked it, but you have to wonder how the boot seller acquired such an expenisve, pro mic without knowing its worth. Sounds like a good deal for you though! How much is he asking?

I paid £850 for my MKH60 in full rycote.

£850 is a great deal with zeppelin. I will let you know when the deal is done! Won't be that much. I am currently using a 416T, which has been good.

Will I notice much difference? Obviously the phantom power will help over the T but sound wise I am not sure there's a lot in it. I will still keep my 416 anyway so I will do a comparison.

£850 was a pretty fair price I think. If it is as new and without a Zepplin I would aim for under £500. I would be interested if you can hear the difference between the MKH60 and the 416.

Hi,

Could you please tell me where I can get a new MKH60 for under £500?

Im looking for one at the moment and from all the shops I have found so far, they cost twice that amount.

I appreciate any help
thanks!
Haydn

you can , if you will become B&H :-) , the lowest price i know is about 1400$
CHECK USED - thats about the right price ,depends on the usage

The most significant benefit of the 60 over the 416 is the bass cut, treble boost, and pad... but there are still people who prefer the actual SOUND of the 416 over the 60... so it's kind of a trade-off... but I'm one of the people who thinks the 60 sounds better then the 416... which is good because the bass-cut is a stupidly weak 5db/octave at 100hz! That can make a significant difference in some situations... but hey Sennheiser! Why the hell didn't you go with a 12db/octave? If we need to cut the bass we need to cut the muther-effin' bass!

Thanks for replying :]

I didn't think I would be able to get a new one for £500, but I just had to make sure!
Don't know if I would be happy spending a lot of money on a second hand microphone, especially from ebay. I would be happy getting one from LTF's clearance pages but unfortunately they don't have any at the moment.

ExileOnTheMainStreet , what is B&H ? and do you know a shop that sells it for $1400?

thanks,
Haydn

My MKH60 developed a hum. It cost £175 to be serviced by Sennheiser.
