Hey everyone,

First post. It's been discussed before, but I need help with my personal setup.

I just bought an MKH-416T.

I have a Boss BR800.

Do I need a PSC A4812 48V Phantom to 12T Power In-Line Barrel Adapter ($37.00) to be able to use it and not ruin it?

And...

How would one go about just plugging it (the MKH) into a stereo jack... IE. right into a Nikon D7000 ?

Thanks.

Manny

Hi, and welcome.

You only need a phantom to T-power adaptor if the Boss puts out phantom power for the mic. But looking at the specs I cannot see any mention of phantom power at all. So you may need to purchase an external power supply -either a T-power supply or a phantom power supply plus the phantom to T-power adaptor.

No - you need to plug it into XLR mic. inputs - but check powering.

I hope this helps.

The BR-800 does have phantom power.

Also, thanks for your reply. But I am still confused about the usage of the MKH-416T. I don't think I am allowed to just plug this mic into any XLR jack...

IE I also have a Beachtek DXA-2T. This doesn't supply phantom power. But can't I just plug my MKH-416T into it's XLR inputs? Please help anyone. thank you.

The mic. needs 12V T-power.

So you have to either have a unit that supplies 12V T-power - or - you have a unit that supplies 48V phantom power and you use an in-line converter that converts the 48V phantom to 12V T-power.

If you plug incorectly you can damage the mic.

Thank you. Thats pretty clear. I'm pretty sure one of the four inputs on the BR800 supplies phantom power. So I will buy the converter.

Cheers.
