Sennheiser ME66 Shotgun Mic

Well I just got the Sennheiser ME66 shotgun mic shipped to me and did some quick experiments with it to test it out. I got to say I am very impressed with the quality difference! The pickup on the the ME66 compared to the camera's built in mic is incredible. For example, using only the camera's mic from about 25 feet away I could barely hear someone talking in a soft voice. Using the ME66 from 25 feet away I could easily hear whispered dialogue. From a closer distance and at normal speaking levels the mic picks up a very full and clear sound. So, this post doesn't really have a point to it - its just a shout out to shotgun mics cause they are frickin rad! I recommend to anyone who wants to get better audio to consider getting a decent shotgun mic. You won't be dissapointed...

sound like a good deal.
how much did you get it for ?
Have you try others ?

I got it from evsonline.com - with a K6 power module for about $460. I haven't tried any other shotgun mics with a DVX so I can't really offer a legit comparison to other brands - but so far I'm really liking the ME66.

You might consider the ME64 capsule for it's wider pattern. The ME66 is a great capsule, but it's often too directional for me. Anyone off axis is barely recorded. The ME64 is more forgiving and doesn't stick out quite as far off the camera as well.

where and when do u use the mic usually ?
for recording of wedding, documentary or short film..

Yeah the 66 is extremely directional - which can be a disadvantage in certain situations. And it does stick out pretty far - I had to arrange mine and got it so at Zoom 00 it is just barely out of frame. I thought about the 64 but I just wasn't drawn to it like the 66. But since I already have the K6, it won't be too bad to get an additional 64 in the future....

I bought this mic to be used for a documentary, but I really think it would be useful in anyone of the situations you brought up. Especially if previously you were just using the on-cam mic. Any mic would be an improvement.
