Sennheiser ME-66/K6 over the Rode NTG-2?

I'm looking to buy a microphone to shoot a feature, but the feature is meant to have a very low-fi feel to it. I'm shooting with a DVX100b and not using any artificial light, so with that as a preface, how much of a difference would I notice between the ME-66 and the NTG-2? It will be premiered theatrically, so the volume will be high and I imagine differences will be noticeable.

I really like what I've heard of the ME-66, but is there enough difference in quality to justify the price difference between the two microphones?

Also, is the NTG-2 a good enough microphone to shoot something that isn't meant to be a technically perfect film?

Thanks a bunch!

I think there will be a noticable difference but not what you expect. Even though it's cheaper, most people feel the Rode mic is the better sounding of the two with the ME66 sounding harsh in comparison.

Are you Retarded? How about you use both instead of talking out your ass.

Grantly I've used both and yes the Rode sounds good and I love their products, the ME66 is a more versatile and better sounding package. The K6 connector that comes on it allows you to use a plethora of different heads from the super to hyper cardiods, to even omni stick mics. I currently have two of the ME66 mics in my boom kits and love them. You can't argue with German engineering.

THE e only who retarded here is Probably you
not only you retarded , you also dont have a clew how bad this mic sound compared to most of the shotguns ( sorry dear , i have about 20 different ones and not only the crap you have what doest say the rode isn't crap 2 but at least much pleasant )
theme 66 is the worse sounding between over 300usd mics, overpriced **** , no other words .
it much worse sounding than its early me-80 module the 20 db over signal you have with 66 have nothing to do with the quality sound ,one of the worst for interiors working sounding mics , side coloration ,
thin and hollow sound .
German engineering - more good marketing the logo for bad one :-)
there is no super or hypercardioid head as i recall - me -64 is cardioid
i cant argue with German engineering but i can argue about your ears :-)

there would be adifference in your pocket if have no intend go for qolity for better mic .
ntg-1 will save afew bucks , less weight , less money same prefformers if you dont need battery power and have phantom
for the price of the me - you can get much bettr product as at-4073

I have the ntg-2. cant say ive had the best experience - due to me being one man most of the time. But if you have someone to boom the NTG-2, i would say do it over the ME66. I heard Coppola used this mic for one of his movies. It is a hard price to beat. There arent many justification in buying the ME66. Check out dvestore.com. They have side by side comparisons of some of the mics you might be looking into buying.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll consider the 4073a an the NTG-2 instead of the ME-66. Is the performance difference between those two worth the price difference?

Thanks a lot, really appreciate the info!

noewayout. join date: apr 2008. sigh... never trust a person who bought another me-66 after they heard the first one...

I'll stick by my guns - many people think the Rode sounds better, smoother than the ME66. Now if we were comparing the Rode to a MKH series Sennheiser - say the 416 - it would be a different story but the ME series would be considered entry level pro mics.

Say if I wanted to get Rode + a high quality wind protection (k-tek Zepp), comepare to getting a at4073 + high quality wind protection. How much would the price difference be and would it be a better investment to go off with the better combo even if it's more expensive?

go to any online store and look, dude. the difference is the price difference between the mic....

i do believe the at4073a is a better investment, although quite honestly any mic with the exception of the truly top level mics (sen 416, sanken cs-3e, schoeps etc) can always be upgraded. even the 416 is upgradable - its just the benchmark mic.

Retarded?
How about exercising some civility and manners?
or reading the forum rules?
or if you are really in the mood to stretch your horizon, try respecting other people's opinions?, ...especially those with experience?
Dude, you're walking into a room elbows first and clearly demonstrating what it means to be "...talking out your ass":thumbdown

its not aproblem call someone retarded when he deserv it - in this particalery case there is only one on thatdeserv this title :-)
and as you know gco my languig barries sometoimes broght me to much powerfull words - look at my avator :-)

If you have a chance to go down to the super store of B&H in New York. . Go to the sound department and ask them to show you both the mikes. And you can test them both together in their sound booth and I can tell you after testing it .

You will know why so many of us prefer the NTG2 over the ME66. I used to have the ME66. switch over to the NTG2. But if I have money, the 416 is on my list next.
