Sennheiser g2s

Hi recently rented a pair of g2s to do a simple corporate vid. I noticed that, when talent talks louder, the sound starts to sound compressed (not distortion but just very saturated). i look at the levels on the camera, on my wendt x4 as well as the g2 receiving end unit, the camera, Sony Digital Beta's levels are around -10 to -8.
but, the audio doesnt sound pleasant in my ears, and i am hoping now that the compression (or distriotng) only happens on my headphone return amp and not the actual recording.

Just wondering how should i calibrate my mixer to the g2s so that i dont hav to worry that my levels on the receiving unit is distorted or clipping. g2s tend to have the flaw of being inflexible in level adjustments.

dont get from your post if you know something about the gear you use or not ,
so first calebrate the tx inputs so it will only go to limmiting on high picks ocasianly
b calibrate the reciever out for mic /line level , acording to that calibrate the wendt input and pads
then calibrate the digi beta so 0vu ( I GUES YOU DONT HAVE PICK METER VERSION) =+4DBU will get you -20 or -18 dbfd ( the secend is better for vu metering )
now you need to know that the digi beta/hd-900/have the worst headphone amp and it circuet distort on everything above -10 dbfs
so to hear normally you connect the 5 pin out to your wendt and if you are not working with 970 (the progressive vertion digi beta) you need to open the camera and disconnect the limmiters on line outs , factory setting on which kicks at -10dbfs and lower the gain ( another 2 switches) for -3 db( factory settings odu for -20 dbfs) to eliminate the wendt returns overloaded on high picks ( not realy nessery if you dont push to much )
now you done

i guess you just overloaded the wendt with extra gain out on g2 recievers - but you are not soundman so i doont blame you <

hi, so does that means my recording is affected or the return level is affected?

my g2 tx was at -20db

my rx was at 06 db.

digibeta was calibrated to -20db on the L chan and -10db on the R chan (one person talking).

during recording, the rx and the dbeta was not peaking over to 0db. but there's this occasional compression that i heard, is this only on my headphone amp or on the recording itself.

oleg 2 > yes, i am no soundman but i am learning to be one:)

the + 6 db is quit high for mic input on wendt , there is agood chance you did distort the preamp if you worked 0 or -10 db pad on inputs
better work maximum and use line input or minimum and use mic ,
wendt alwais amplify for maximum and have pads in front of the preamp , not like the sd which have varible preamp stage .
about beta monitoring - never if you can use the headphones out as it distort badly ,use 5 pin outs .
if it your camera or someone you work regullary , shut down the limmiters on 5 pin outs .
also why didnt you check the mixer out - i know the f,, switch is on the side and it hard to get , so if it your wendt , pay few $ to replace and put it on the front so you can go from source to recorderin a secend

+6 (and +12) output on the g2 is regarded as better suited for line level inputs... my guess is that is your problem... either that or the return headphone line monitoring.

yes bro, thanks for advice. my wireless sets are all on line level not mic level. i did switch on my mixer monitoring during the start of recording, it sounds ok. it was only during the midst of recording it sounded compressed. n i never really had issues when i was using lectrosonics.

my receiver end i did tried using +00 db or even -06(my tx was either -10 or -20), the sound was not compressed but i don't get a good level (wendt fader was to the max at 0dB). that was a big difference when i switch to +06dB.

woah man now u tell me this i starting fell stress out alrd, this was a major corporate vidz shoot.
