transmitter sensitivity: -10db for quiet speaker, -20dB for louder speaker (using lav)
reciever output: +12 dB (maximum)
DVX100 inputs: set to line, levels about 11 to 12 o'clock.
There is absolutelly no point in setting the reciever output level to minus something to mimic mic levels, when you can have strong line level signal output. That is, if the recorder (camera) can take line in, like DVX100 can. Less padding/reamplification, less chance of interference.
Just another one of many posts I am thankful for on this site and since the G2 has been a topic of conversation a bit, I figure I would point it out for those interested and also confirm I have my on camera set up correct. Had to read it about 4 times to understand it, but I think I got it right. I have set up the 2 units as follows:
transmitter sensitivity at -10db (will lower further if loud talking or shouting)
receiver output at +12 db max
set the camera to line
turned the phantom power off on the camera
Have the levels on the camera pointing towards 12 o' clock. Will adjust as necessary.
Each receiver is on a different frequency.
Monitoring with head phones plugged into the camera.
Not looking for professional perfect sound here but is there anything else I need to do or know (red flags) as to this set up when running and gunning, especially with two? I realize this is elementary for many of you so ignore if so. I imagine you feel like Damon when he burns the proof in front of the professor in "Good Will Hunting." "You know how easy this is for me and I have to sit here and watch you f it up." Thanks.
I wired up my girlfriend (she reluctantly agreed) with a G2 and we drove up to Portsmouth New Hampshire today. I was using a very cheap headset to the HVX and wasn't sure if I was even getting sound at times. It was funny when she walked into a coffee shop to get us coffee and I could eavesdrop on the conversation while sitting at a table outside. "no i said 2 sugars." Playing the P2 cards back, I am very pleased with the sound (although not expert enough to know if it really good or not) It was windy and I don't hear a lot of noise in the playback. Glad I got them.
