Sennheiser Evolution sounds flat

Just recieved my evolution wirless lav set and recorded some audio, I have to say it sounded flat and noisy. I watched the levels in the camera nothing peaked out to red- I was wondering if there were settings that I need to tweak in the camera or on the lav set itself. New to the audio gig and want to understand what Im doing and why.

Any help would be appreciated.
thank You

Re: Sennheiser Evolution sounds flat

I would take your camera and wireless into the place you got the wireless and have them help you set it up. They should be able to do that. I do that all the time for people.

on the TX you have a sesitivity option, from -?? db to +?? db, on the RX there is a RF OUT option, depending on the person talking, your gonna have to do some tweeking.

Unfortunatly I orered from B&H, there is no local dealer who handles this item. I will just have to tweak it myself.

It's a standard adjustment that will take "tweaking" EVERY time you use it... that's why the dial is RIGHT THERE ON IT. Get comfortable with setting up your wireless every time or you're not going to have a happy wireless experience... It's very simple... plug headphones in at the receiver with the receiver set to about 1/3 output... then talk into the mic at the transmitter and turn it up until your voice sounds good. Hot signals equal lower noise, but the hotter you run the transmitter the more compressed the audio will sound... so simply add punch until you like what you hear... If you ever run out of tranmitter power then go to the receiver and turn IT up until you're happy. You should go through this 30 second setup everytime you use the wireless... The term "tweak" means you won't have to start with the dials at ZERO... you'll just bump them a bit from their last setting depending on what you hear. Simple no?

I almost forgot... be sure your camera volume knobs are set at 12 o'clock or LOWER... the lower you can run your camera volume, according to the knobs, and still get proper levels, showing in the LCD... the lower the wireless noise floor will be. See the pattern? Hot signal from transmitter to receiver lowers the noise floor... hot signal from receiver to camera lowers the noise floor.

Then call B&H. They should be able to help you out. I hate to be an @$$hole about it, but they should be supporting the product they sell.

The tweeking is done by you, you need to do it most of the time b4 a gig depending on the talking head, , press set, then the up and down arrows until you see RF out and sesit... it's EZ, just gotta get used to it..
