Sennheiser 100 G2 work for all these applications?

Hi all,

I've spent the last few weeks doing research and reading many many posts on this board. Very helpful stuff. I've never used the Sennheiser G2 100. I have a number of uses:

Weddings (know it will work well for this)
Corporate Interviews
Corporate movie style skits

So :

1. As long as the freqency is clear, does the G2 introduce any noise into the signal? This makes a difference for the corp. interviews and the movie skits

Thanks a bunch for the help.

I have the G2 and I think it should work for the interviews ok, although I think they recommend a min distance between xmitter and receiver of 15 ft, or something like that. I'm quite sure you will see more noise compared to using a mic cable, so running a cable would be first preference, as long as cable is not inordinately long.

Only be aware the mic that comes with those systems is a round ball about the size of a dime,
in other words: enormous in the context of modern lavalier mics. I'd recommend getting a
different mic than the one included, maybe even something in white or flesh finish and very
tiny, especially for weddings.. Don't think a bride would like a coin-sized black microphone on
her. However, she wouldn't have any qualms with a flesh-toned Countryman B6 lav.

Hope this helps.

Wow - that is a small mic. I checked them out after your post. Do the B3 and B6 actually give as good or better performance than the mic it comes with, or comparable mics in price?

I've got 3 G2 kits, and use them in interview situations all the time. They work great. Didn't notice any minimum distance problems - I'm usually ~5 feet from the transmitter. There is definitely a max distance of ~100 feet (but I had obstructions). I clip 2 receivers on the DVX grip - works a lot better than using metal holders.

I'm sure the G2's are not as good as a cable or a Lectrosonic, but I think they're a good value if you need wireless.

The lavs that come with the kits do pick up a lot of ambient noise, so I would also recommend getting different lavs if you can afford it.

Hi All,
I have 2 of the G2's with the stick mic blocks. I also have 2 77b's. Would you sound guys say use the 77b's over the one that come with the G2 kit.

Another question... I just finished a feature with double system & I would love to never do it again. If I use the blocks to send from the output of the DAT / mixer to my DVX is the quality hit noticable ? Really ? We used a 416 and it sounded good off DAT, but syncing is a bummer.

Thanks in Advance,

Steve
