Senheisser ME 66 DAMAGE question

Hello, I have an important question about a Sennheiser ME66, I recently found out it has a hit on the top grid part. (photos attached)

I'm very concerned about this. Is the damage grave at all?, Does it affect the microphone in any way?, Does it affect the audio?, Is it significant, or insignificant at all?

I tested it and it sounds ok, but can't keep off my mind that it sounds not okay because i don't see the microphone ok. And I have nothing to compare it to.

Thank you all in advance.

The diaphragm in a shot gun is usually not right at the tip so it's probably OK, the worry is more that the impact loosened something you don't want lose. Don't let that friend boom for you again...

Thank you all!!!

Excuse my ignorance, but what is precisely the main function of the grid and the "cotton-like" piece at the tip of the mic?, I assume is for protection of the diaphragm and the internal components of the mic.

Is there something I should be worried about?

I have one that looks exactly like that. It happened many, many years ago and it is just fine. Put your foam windscreeen or Windjammer (back) on and forget about it!

The grill protects the diaphragm and other "inards" from things like what bent it, the foam/ cloth etc is a basic layer of wind protection.

It's to stop dust and debris getting into the tube and is also part of the damping of the capsule.

The capsule itself is very far away - it's down at the other end of the tube, marked with the red arrow on the attached picture.

A dent in the top like that does not matter at all.

The diaphragm in that shotgun is way back near where the battery goes in. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec13/articles/qanda-1213-01.htm

Actually, the diagram in that artical is slightly wrong as the arrow does not point to where the capsule actially is correctly.

I have annotated the diagram so the RED arrow points to where the capsule actually is and the vertical red line is about where the diaphragm is.

The holes behind the capsule are required to allow sound to get to the rear of the capsule to make the basic super-cardioid pattern of the capsule.
