Sending Midi code for live lights to sync with video playback

Not exactly sure about this...

We have a live show, we have a countdown timer synced with music/video (created in Final Cut). For the live show, we want the lights to have pre-programmed cues that would sync with midi messages (that the board reads).

Is there a way for quicktime to send midi messages out while playing a video for this, or by playing back through final cut? What would be the best way to go about this?

If you could find someone locally who knows Max/MSP/Jitter (from Cycling74.com),
they could build you a mini app that would do that for you. That kind of custom
environment would be easily tweakable and cue-able. You might also want to
look into Ableton Live or Isadora. These are all Mac apps.
