Send to Soundtrack question

I'm doing some audio cleanup and I really like the "send to soundtrack" option. However, when I send a clip from my timeline to Soundtrack it sends the entire source audio. I want to only edit the audio from the edited clip. Is this possible? When I send the clip the entire master audio opens with an in and out point....but when I save it, the entire audio file saves, which is way to big. Am I doing something wrong?

That's the way it works for me. I think it's the whole non-destructive editing thing. You only need to apply the changes to the section you're using.

but when I save it it saves a massive file on the desktop...for example I have interviews that are about 60 minutes, but when I'm cleaning up audio from a specific clip in the timeline that is only 10 seconds, it opens the entire 60 minute interview and saves the whole thing to the desktop. Is there no way to say only the 10 second clip?

I don't have a response for that because all my work has been in the narative arena. If I have a four minute clip it is really long. 60 minutes, wow.

Have you considered making a master clip from your edited clip? That might do it.

blaine,

thanks...that did it...its a pain but works and i have to replace the clip in the timeline, but atleast it works....i just opened the source in the viewer that contained the in and out points, made it a subclip and cleaned up in soundtrack then replaced it....

thanks

What I do is make a new sequence in FCP and copy just the bit I want to tweak in Soundtrack into that new sequence. Then I send that to Soundtrack, edit, and then can copy the tweaked audio from the new sequence back into my main sequence.
