Send to Motion after Rev. Telecine from HV20, wrong size!

I've tried to search as much as I could for this problem, but I'm surprised no one else has posted about it.

I have a Canon HV20 and am following the recommended workflows all over different user groups. I must say my footage looks GREAT when it is in FCP after I've Reverse Telecined it using Cinema Tools.

The problem:
...Cool, I have an edited film and want to add some effects using motion.
When I send the processed footage to Motion from the timeline (or the browser) using the 'Send to...' feature the result when Motion opens is a small video clip sitting in a sea of black. It's like the clip shrunk on it's way into Motion. If I save the Motion project, the result appears in FCP and my footage is now useless.

I know there are painful ways of making this work, but why isn't the simple "roundtrip" feature of FCP not working?

Please help!

I don't know if this has been others' experience but I've had some bugs with "Send to Motion" in the past. My workaround has been to export a QuickTime reference file from FCP (not self-contained) and then bring that bit into Motion as a standalone process.

You can then tweak or effect as much as you want and render out the new file for re-import back into FCP. Your old edit remains untouched and you can see how it 'plays' without dealing with Motion's RAM preview.

Again - just something to try. I realize it defeats the whole notion of jumping back and forth seamlessly but I wasn't having much luck doing that anyway.

So (if you're so inclined), mark in's and out's for the timeline to be effected, export QuickTime movie (make sue it's NOT self-contained), start a new Motion project, bring it in and have at it!
