Selling Stock Footage

Anyone ever sell stock video footage? How do you determine pricing for this? I've looked on the web and have found a number of different pricing scenarios based on number of clips etc... Anyone have suggestions?

I have a customer interested in buying my footage as stock so they can produce their own material. They also want me to collaborate and produce some video work. I want to make sure I am in the ballpark. ???

Well, I think it would be fair to just charge the rate it cost you to actually shoot the footage. Rentals, your daily rate, materials, etc.

I think the idea with stock footage is that you either have something rare that you can sell for a lot of money because of the exclusive nature of the material, or you have something that's widely desireable so you can sell it to a lot of people for a little bit of money. Chances are that your footage is neither, so you should probably just sell it for production cost, especially if this might lead to further work for yourself.

It's almost impossible to sell your own stock footage on the open market, as most stock property is managed by stock footage clearinghouses, so there isn't as much room for little guys in the market.
