Selling films online

My last film I sold local and went through a local company. Amazon takes $3.60 plus the cut to the local company take a cut for shipping it for me. Anyone have any suggestions on ways to do this? I don't want to do it myself.
 
Vimeo has a paying option doesn't it? Set it up on there and promote it / get a promoter? Best of luck
 
First off, go straight to Amazon and eliminate the 'middle man' of the local company. I put my movie 'Tangled Web' on Amazon through CreateSpace.

The most important thing is promotion. I naively expected my movie would sell just because it was on Amazon. It didn't. You have to get the word out so that people know about your movie and want to see/own it, then tell them where to find it. Getting that word out to a large enough audience is the hardest part, especially if you have no money for marketing, like me.

Do you just ship direct to Amazon? Yes I have people lined up and should be able to get to a fairly large group of people. I have very little to market the film but thanks to social media and the web you can do a lot with no money

My movie is on Amazon through CreateSpace, so it's part of Amazon Instant Video -- people can 'rent' it and watch online, or they can 'buy' it and download it to their PC. I don't sell pre-made DVD's, so I don't have an answer for you on that.

I thought social media would do the trick too. I setup a Facebook page and got over 1,000 friends, then setup a page for 'Tangled Web' and invited all my friends to 'like' it. I promoted the movie on Facebook as much as I could, with virtually zero results. Social media will only take you so far, even in the best of situations. I still haven't found any effective way to produce sales without spending money. Maybe others have.
