Sell it or keep it? Looking for opinions.

I have a few things that I got several years ago and I would like to know whether what I have is worth keeping or if I'm better of selling it on ebay in order to buy something better. Please specify you reasons whether for keeping the equipment or selling it.

First off is the Sennheiser ME66K.

Second is a Rycote Pistol grip/boom pole attachment. I don't know what the specific model number is but it says Softie 21/22mm on it and the actual gripping piece is a hollwed out rubber tube basically mounted on a hard plastic handle.

Next is a Rycote Softie aka a fuzzy wind sock thing. It fits well with the Sennheiser but I don't know if it'd work o well if I bought a different shotgun mic such as the audio Technica or the higher end Sennheiser.

Then I have 20' of Neutrik XLR cable. I have no idea if this is a crap brand of cable or not, but after having read what an important role cabling plays I'd like to invest n some quality stuff.

Lastly is a Canon XL1 which by this time next year will be replaced with an HVX or whatever other camera catches my eye the most at the time.

Thanks for your help.

Kinda like having one of those old two-passenger '63 Chevys with the fiberglass bodies. Eeeeeeeew.

I wouldn't get rid of any of it, except the Canon. Even that, maybe not.

I'm into cables and I still wouldn't get rid of any cable... eventually you'll want a dozen different cables anyway... and if you see Neutrik connectors then I'm sure the cable is good enough. Like everyone I like the best, but I don't ever trade "good enough" for "best"... just add "best" later.

I pretty much agree with GenJerDan across the board... depends on what you can get for the Canon.

Ditto. Seems that whatever you can get for the Canon now will be only slightly less when you get your new cam. That is one oooooold camera (in technological years). I think my computer had not even broke 1 gHz when that camera came out.

If you are selling all the equipment are you replacing it with something better? As crappy as I think the ME66 is...it is better then nothing :)

Cheers

I'm trying to put together a good audio kit for the feature I'm shooting next Spring.

I have the Oktava now and in addition to that I was ging to get:

1.Sound Devices 702

2.Either the Audio technica 4073, the 1,000 dollar Sennheiser or (and this is a stretch) that Blue schoeps Mic.

3. A pair of those Sony Headphones

4. A Pelican Case to store it all in

5.Shockmounts, windscreens, blimps, cables, etc.

I already have a good Carbon fiber boom pole, so I'm all set there.

BTW, I checked on ebay and I think I could get 1,000-1,500 for the XL1 which combined with the money I already have saved up would give me enough to get the SD 702 and start working with it.
